Tu B'Shvat Celebrations

Tu B’Shvat is often called the Jewish New Year of the Trees. At its heart, it is a holiday about our relationship with the earth, marking a moment of renewal, growth, and responsibility. In Jewish tradition, trees are not only part of the landscape. They are teachers, reminding us that what we nurture now shapes the seasons to come.

This year, we will honor Tu B’Shvat through two connected experiences on Sunday, February 1st. One is rooted in hands on learning on the land, and the other is rooted in the Jewish mystical tradition that understands Tu B’Shvat as a spiritual journey.

1. Morning Program: Tu B’Shvat on the Land
Families and Teen Community Service Learning

10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Location: Maui Majesty in Lower Kula
Address and directions will be provided upon RSVP. Please reply to this email, or click the RSVP button below.

*This morning experience will count toward Community Service Learning hours.

We will spend the morning at Maui Majesty learning directly about conservation, sustainability, and what it means to live in relationship with the earth. Janine will guide us through her beginning food forest and share the systems she uses to live self sufficiently and in balance with the land.

Together, we will also paint pots and plant seeds. These will later be used as centerpieces for our Passover Seders, carrying the energy of Tu B’Shvat forward into the spring.

Please come prepared to be outdoors.

  • Bring a hat and a full water bottle.

  • Wear thick soled shoes such as sneakers or hiking boots for uneven and thorny terrain.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that can get a little messy.

  • Bring a jacket in case of rain.

2. Afternoon Program: Tu B’Shvat Mystical Seder
All are welcome
Time: 4:00 pm
Location: Marge’s home

Later in the day, we will gather for a Tu B’Shvat Seder inspired by Jewish mystical teachings, which understand the holiday as a journey through the four spiritual worlds, each reflected through the fruits of the earth.

This will be a Vegetarian, zero waste potluck. More details will be shared after RSVP.

I hope you will join us for one or both of these offerings as we honor Tu B’Shvat together.
